Why do I have to pay 1/2 up-front?
As a musician and business person, time is very valuable. Once I get your deposit, I can fully commit to dedicating my attention to your project.
What methods of payment do you accept?
In order to make payment free, fast, safe, and convenient, we provide PayPal, VISA, and MasterCard as our preferred methods of payment. Please note that although all payments are processed through PayPal, you are not required to use or even sign up for a PayPal account. However, we do accept institutional checks and/or purchase orders. If it is necessary to use a personal check, we ask that it fully clear before we begin work, then again before we issue the completed product.
How you do turn my recording into sheet music?
I use a keyboard to indicate what pitches and chords to write. I then assign those pitches rythms. As I write each measure, I need to add rests in any part not playing at any moment. Then I have to add all the other musical elements (such as dynamics, tempos, articulations, and phrase marking) to the page and format the size and layout of the page to be readable for all parts and include things like credits, measure numbers.
Can't you just play it on a keyboard and record it?
The technology to simply play and score with the internal metronome is still not developed well enough to make this a viable option. The computer doesn't recognize nuance or slight tempo changes. It is also far too literal in its translation of note lengths. (Staccatos and legato notes are often notated as two different note lengths, when that is not what is intended.) I do use a keyboard to indicate what notes/chords to play, but with Finale, I don't have to play them at tempo. Plus, no other musical elements can be captured (dynamics, accents etc.) or translated to their respective musical (score) markings.
Why does it take so long?
As indicated earlier, there is much more to be added once the notes are down on paper; musical elements such as dynamics, tempo and phrase marking, lyrics, repeats and score expressions, just to name a few. And then the staves have to be laid out and sized appropriately, much like choosing font size and margins for a text document.
